“I mean, what’s not to like? Custard, good. Jam, good. Meat, good!”

Mashed potato with green peas

I like french fries, adore the steak potato and could die for mashed potato. But do not ever give me normal cooked potato, especially with parsley, which is a typical Hungarian side dish. Potato may be my favorite side dish or even main dish, such as patatas asadas or as I learnt from my American friend jacket potato or stamppot, which is a Dutch meal, especially with zuurkool, sour cabbage. Hmm, there is some serious cooking needed to be done asap! But let’s get back to our mashed potato. I like to add an extra flavor to it, such as garlic, cream or nutmeg. This time I added green peas and cream to the potato. We loved it, I hope you will like it too!

  • 1 kg peeled potato
  • 30 dkg green peas
  • 2 dl cream
  • 4 big pinches salt

Slice and dice the potato. In a pan bring it to the boil with enough water to cover all the potatoes. Add the salt. When its cooked a fork can easily be poked through them. It should be after 15 minutes usually. Add the frozen green peas and cook for another 5 minutes.  Drain water from potatoes. Put hot potatoes and green peas into a bowl and mash them with the cream using a potato masher or a mixer.
