Broccoli and Sweet Potato Puree

broccolisweet-potato What to do with the broccoli to make it tastier for the baby?

I’ve never seen a child who liked broccoli from the first bite. If you have one pls let me know and prove it ;-)

According to my husband normal children will never ever like broccoli… YES, they will! You just have to make it yummy for them!

My babygirl was making such faces when trying the broccoli I don’t think I will ever forget this moment in my life. However I really wanted her to eat broccoli time to time as this is a wonderful source of vitamin C and vitamin K.

The broccoli as it is, she didn’t eat. So, my first try was mixing it with carrot. She didn’t like it either, but it’s actually not her fault. Carrots are very old and ugly this time of the year, you will not find cute baby carrots in the market during winter. Finally I found sweet potato and mixed the broccoli with it. She loved it!

The sweetness of the potato makes the puree yummy for the baby not to mention the bunch of vitamins, like A, C niacin and folic acid. It’s also a source of potassium and contains magnesium and calcium.

  • 1 whole sweet potato (a smaller one is enough)
  • 1/2 cup fresh broccoli

Wash them in cold water. Peel the potato and cut it into chunks, then chopp the broccoli and break it into florets. Remove the thick parts of the stems and the leaves. Steam them for about 10 minutes. Using a blender you can easily make a nice puree for your baby. If you are not satisfied with the consistency of the puree, you can add some water to thin it. The water used for steaming makes the puree tasteful, do not waste the water used for the veggies. Serve it, make pictures of the happy baby faces and post them! :)
